What a summer of sport we are enjoying. From the nervy late nights and collective anxiety of watching England battle their way through the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup, to the England women's team competing on the global stage, the unmistakable traditions of Wimbledon, the ICC Women's T20 World Cup final, the first-ever women's Test match at the Home of Cricket! Add to that a packed calendar of athletics, cycling, golf and international cricket, And the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
To ensure our own culture of inclusive sport for all and formal competition between individual students and our four houses was at the centre of school enrichment again we hosted our Annual sports day on Friday 3rd July. It was a fantastic celebration of sporting performance, teamwork, and house spirit, with an incredible 100% student participation throughout the day.
Students competed with enthusiasm across a wide range of track and field events. The track programme featured races such as the 100m sprint, relay, and the 1500m Fun Run. Field events included the Long Jump, Javelin, and Shot Put.
Alongside the traditional athletics programme, pupils also competed in a variety of inter-house tournaments, including velodrome cycling, rowing, basketball, and doubles tennis, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the day.
New for 2026 were a range of inclusive ‘fun’ activities, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. Students had the opportunity to test their skills on the inflatable dartboard, coconut shy, putting green, Kubb and corn hole, with individual prizes awarded to the highest scoring participants, adding even more excitement and fun to the occasion.
The atmosphere around the school was outstanding, with each house proudly displaying their colours through face paint, glitter, headbands, and even capes, creating a vibrant and energetic environment. The incredible house spirit was matched by the encouragement shown between students and staff, with fantastic teamwork evident as pupils supported and motivated one another to achieve their very best, regardless of the event.
For the 3rd consecutive year, we have to offer our Congratulations to Vega House, who were crowned overall Inter-House Sports Day Champions 2026.
A huge thank you to every student and member of staff who contributed to making Sports Day 2026 such a memorable success and reflected the values of Hampton College superbly.
