In Years 7 to 9, class size is seen as being an important factor in keeping the Technology rooms safe places to be and improving the experience that all students have. The classes operate on a carousel basis so that all students have the same modules and gain the same key skills in each area.
In Year 7, the emphasis is on developing basic techniques and learning how to use the tools and equipment. There are opportunities for the students to work at their own pace and create their own designs. It is important that students work on a project that will challenge and enthuse.
Year 8 and 9 give the student opportunities to extend the knowledge that they have gained in previous years with related, but more complicated projects. They will be able to select from a wider variety of materials and learn different skills and techniques.
During these modules, there are a variety of assessment opportunities. Assessment for Learning statements are used for all the design work produced, giving the students the opportunity to assess themselves and each other. Every module taught encourages the student to be as creative as possible, working independently and as part of a group, learning to manage their time efficiently and reflect on what they have achieved.
